Helsinki Living Lab (Arabianranta) Helsinki Living Lab is based on the place were Helsinki was established by King Gustav Vasa in the year 1550 in Arabianranta. By the year 2010 it will be the area for 13,000 students, 10,000 residents and 8,000 workers. Arabianranta is a real Living Lab and the most important hub of creative industries and creative people in the Nordic Countries.

The initiative, NorthRULL, has been launched by a set of northernmost regions of Finland and, within them, by a Triple Helix constellation of the Regional Councils and development agencies, the two universities and the HEI network, and the key enterprise clusters. The formulation “Northern Rural-Urban Living Lab” states our intention to experiment with, learn from, and put into effect forms of innovative interplay between ICT-intensive growth- hubs on the one hand and rural areas on the other.

Himos tourism resort in Jämsä takes part in the development activity as well through a Living Lab methodology. HumanTech LL includes Lutakko Living Lab and Himos Experience Lab.

The Tampere Central Region Living Lab (TCR-LL) was launched in late autumn 2008 with the support of the open innovation environments Demola and VTT’s (Technical Research Centre of Finland) Open Web Lab. The mission of the TCR-LL is to create an ecosystem, in which complementary actors, i.e. research entities, users and companies can work together harmoniously to create and exploit their synergies. The TCR-LL is an interactive and iterative process where the original ideas come from citizens, researchers and service providers.

The Turku Archipelago is the Finnish part of the Scandinavian Islands. It is called Åboland in Swedish and consists of 20 000 islands and 22 700 bilingual inhabitants. The Turku Archipelago, represented by Region Åboland r.f., the regional development agency for the eight rural archipelago municipalities of south-west Finland, proudly joins the European Network of Living Labs. Åboland is a hotbed of technical development and innovation, featuring the first wireless WIMAX broadband network in Finland and MEBB, the citizens’ archipelago intranet.
