Living Labs Øresund aims to create an environment that operates as a central hub for user-driven projects within mobile and wireless technology in the Øresund Region. Living Labs is an open expertise forum where users, private companies, governmental institutions and public sector organizations compose the physical and virtual innovation infrastructure to create targeted solutions and services for relevant user communities. Living Labs Øresund is a regional project integrated in a pan-European perspective. Living Labs have been successfully established in corresponding regions in Europe, and thus Living Labs Øresund provides a network on an international level and is a gateway to a significant critical mass and new markets.

Description of Concept

Our main focus is mobile services and the project which takes most of the initial time faces the student community. This means that we work with new services to improve administration, learning and pleasure for the student group and also for coming student groups. Specific services concerns lesson planning, marketing, collaboration and new learning environments.  Developing methods for commercialization of service innovations Living Labs Øresund also focus on how to expand business for both the stakeholders but also for the ICT sector as a whole. Since our expertise all have strong commercial background, we focus very strongly of giving added value to stakeholders in all our projects. We also develops different tools and models of how to increase commercialization from service innovation, a field that is not very well explored in Europe today.

User/Citizen involvement

The mStudent project is a specific example of an individual project within the student segment in Living Labs Øresund. By understanding the behaviour and lifestyle of students, it is possible to incorporate them in a development process that results in context specific solutions, i.e. mobile payment, e-learning, administrative services and e-library. To realise such applications, students, universities, entrepreneurs, software companies and other stakeholders from the private and the public sector are involved in the project. In the region we engage about 5 000 students in quantitative studies and about 100 in different qualitative studies.

Primary stakeholders

Our primary stakeholders are the industry (SonyEricsson, TeliaSonera, Cybercom, Avensia), public partners (Cities of Malmo and Lund, Region Skåne) and academia (University of Lund, University of Malmo, University of Øresund and Ideon Sceince Park). The department of Innovation – Vinnova – is also one of the more important stakeholders investing in the LL.
