eHealth Living Lab in Granada, Spain, means real public health environments (remote elderly care, home hospitalization and technologies for hospitals), in which technology will be deployed to be used by Scientifics, Technicians and Students to test new developments, reconfigure and reshape them or merely observe the behaviour and interaction of the different stakeholders (doctors, patients, nurses, etc...) with the monitorized environment.  

Description of Concept

The eHealth Living Lab will offer three real environments to test ICT's in Health (eHealth):

• Remote elderly care: Videoconference based services, mobile phones based Outdoor location, Biometric information gathering.

• Home Hospitalization: Multi-video conference, Outdoor/indoor location, Domotics, Device remote control, Home and mobile Sensoring, Information gathering from user environment, Information analysis, Multimodal interfaces, Ambiance Intelligence.

• In-hospital technologies: Based on a brand new cutting-edge hospital:

o Rooms: TV on demand, Special sensors

o Hospital: IP connectivity (Internet2), data servers, Wireless in/out of the hospital, Easy to deploy new technology

o Tools: EHR available in these TV sets, Indoor/outdoor location, RFID, ultrasounds, non- electronic or electric devices (wheelchairs, walkers, beds,...)  

This Living Lab will evolve, including new features, sensors and technology in general, as well as more rooms and facilities in the hospital, with the coming of new demands.  

A Foundation will be in charge of its managing. It will be composed by the Ministry of Health of Andalucía, Universities, SME’s as well as industrial partners, like Telefónica. Part of the Living Lab (the hospital) will be located in the Technological Park of Health Sciences in Granada, a singular place in which medical staff, users, academics and companies will share collaborative initiatives.

Telefónica, multinational telecommunications and services company, as part of its business strategy, is actually developing, by means of Telefónica I+D, a global platform, composed by a set of basic services based on New Generation Networks, both mobile and fixed, to be offered to the final user or customer or to 3rd parties, as the basis to create their particular portfolio of 2 level services (Multi-video conference, Outdoor/indoor location, Domotics, Device remote control, Home and mobile Sensoring, Information gathering from user environment, Information analysis, Multimodal interfaces, etc…) As part of the set of projects involved in the global strategy to define this platform, the company is fully interested to test them before been offered to the market, but also, as the most important aspect, to be able to identify new needs or requirements from the user (final customers, companies, etc…). Telefónica I+D in Granada is specially focused in the development and integration of services for Teleassistance, Telerehabilitation, Medical applications and Home hospitalization.
