Neàpolis presents the Living Lab VilanoLab, focused on the city of Vilanova i la Geltrú (65,000 inhabitants), which seeks to create a heterogeneous network of users based on the citizens of Vilanova I la Geltrú, the Xarxa de Ciutadans 2.0 [Network of Citizens 2.0] which can be fruitfully leveraged by all the Neàpolis stakeholders as a Living Lab. Neàpolis comprises three projects that use the living lab methodology, and will constitute the three pillars of the VilanoLab: The Digital Communities,  The Digital Media and Health and Dependence.

Description of Concept

The Digital Communities Living Lab is a project consisting of creating an open and scalable platform for digital communities. The community is made up of different organisations from the area of Catalan traditional and popular culture that organise web2.0 events around the contents. For training in ICT and web2.0 tools, featuring the participation of Cibersociety Observatory, which channels training to the organisations members and to the dynamisers/webmasters through the Digital Communities Dynamisation Office to keep the community agile, alive and dynamised.. The Office will also present the platform to other groups of citizens (schools, students, immigrants, pensioners, cultural and sports associations, etc.), offering them technical assistance and basic and strategic training for the dynamisers/webmasters, to thus gradually expand the Xarxa de Ciutadans 2.0. The Living Lab Mèdia seeks to create a new audiovisual and public communication model targeting citizens that receive and create contents. The project straddles broad sectors that can create and/or add contents (small local producers, DTT (Digital Terrestrial TV) dealers, neighbours' associations, schools, universities, cultural associations,. Neàpolis- Vilanolab will play an important role in the creation of new services around this project, basically through the creation of audiovisual tools that will make it possible, among other things, to offer Internet based television to citizens. The project will also permit links with other quality projects, such as HD television, DVB-H or social cinema 2.0. The Health and Dependence Living Lab it consists of the monitoring of vital signs with a view to helping people live more safely in their own setting. Neàpolis/Vilanolab brings to the project the concept of “livinglabisation” of the experience in the group of residents of the Day Residence of the Hospital de Sant Antoni Abat of Vilanova, by furnishing the technology to take the project out of the hospital sphere and take medical monitoring into the patients' home in a second phase.
