Iceland’s first Living Lab, founded by Innovation Center Iceland

Description

The most important capabilities and attributes of the Iceland LL, and its characteristics, build on those of Innovation Center Iceland (ICI). Innovation Center Iceland is a governmental institute and a leading R&D and business support organisation in Iceland. The mission of ICI is to increase innovation, productivity and competitiveness of Icelandic business by doing innovative technology research, diffusing knowledge and giving support to entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Its main sectors of activity are the following:

Technology Research and Consulting

Diverse fields in research, such as nanotechnology, renewable energy and concrete rheology. Projects include applied research and testing, basic research in key areas, consultation and technology transfer.

Innovation and Entrepreneur Services

IMPRA at Innovation Center Iceland assists entrepreneurs in the start-up, growth and management of SMEs. IMPRA operates an Incubator Center which offers support and facilities to start-up companies working on innovative business ideasThe Icelandic Innovation Living Lab is a division of the Innovation Center Iceland’s multifaceted operations. This newly formed entity has diverse objectives in the field of user-driven innovation.

References and Track Record

ICI has a long history of encouraging innovation and the productivity and competitiveness of Icelandic business and has acted as an innovation service provider through, what we do refer to as Living Labs methodology. The expertise gained after decades of working with SMEs, businesses, research institutions and academia, as well as extensive experience in managing and cooperating domestic and European R&D projects, makes Innovation Center Iceland the partner of choice for a variety of projects.

Working with users in different capacity is an important part of ICI experiences. Through these projects and working relations ICI has established large International network and has close working relationship with many highly respected experts both within universities, public research organisations and businesses. In Iceland, ICI has a close relation to all the big universities, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, the Confederation of Icelandic Employers and many business associations and businesses.

Iceland LL is currently involved in LL applications to Lilan/Norforsk in the varied fields as energy saving, streaming IT technologies, E-services for innovation management in SME:s, creative industries, new media practices and LL methodology.
