CASALA Living Lab

CASALA Living Lab was established to provide an environment within which, companies, public bodies, academic organisations and other collaborators could design, build, and test products and services for improving the lives of older people. The CASALA Living Lab is an array of environments that provide an opportunity, at every stage of the product or service development cycle, to work with older people, carers, engineers, scientists, and service providers in both realistic test environments and directly in the community.

Population ageing is wrought with challenges, but it also offers many opportunities, the opportunity for older people to age in a place of their choosing as a major policy alternative to long-term care, the economic opportunities in delivering Smart Living for an Ageing Society.

CASALA Living Lab was established in 2010 and leverages the resources of the Netwell and CASALA research centre’s hosted by Dundalk Institute of Technology, the collaborative actives of the age friendly initiative within County Louth and the direct participation of older people themselves. The Living Lab is managed by the CASALA research centre and has a remit to actively seek to work with industry and other research partners in applied research, innovation through to commercialisation. The Living Lab maintains an open culture in relation to new developments and ongoing projects. In so doing, they actively promote benefits gained to a wider ecosystem to enhance the quality of life and well-being of older people and those who care for them, through more integrated community-oriented services, more sustainable home and neighbourhood design, and more age-friendly technologies
